Reviews:
The intention of the quartet is to discover new listener-groups. We endeavour to spread
jazz music to young people by way of concerts and collaboration with schools.
This CD is the result of such a collaboration.
..."It turned out to be a concert full to the brim with the essence of jazz. The youthful choir
performed with excellence"... Beautiful choir arrangements that illuminate the often slightly
melancholy, but never sentimental, melodies that Kjell Jansson writes. In them one hears
the durable and multifaceted legacy that has been passed on from the jazz of the 50s and
60s and which is so well interpreted by the musicians of the quartet"...
Rune Carlsson drives the group forward like Dannie Richmond, Kjell Jansson sounds as
invincible as Mingus and Gilbert Holmström shines with a powerful tenor solo backed by
Tommy Kotter's chords and riffs from the choir. In other words a feast for the ears!
"But the effect can also be wonderfully relaxed in the ballads, with Rune Carlsson's
sensitive brushwork, and the round, mellow tones of the bass"... Tommy Kotter's extensive
and imaginative piano solos"... Gilbert Holmström's big sound, filled with feeling"...
"Two vocal soloists from the choir, Viktoria Särnhult and Karin Hedberg, each performed
a song by Kjell Jansson, two voices completely different in character but both with genuine
jazz feeling"...
